As another Battle Royale bites the dust (Anthem), another title (Apex Legends) rises from the ashes like a triumphant Phoenix.Ironically, EA’s initial priority wasn’t Apex Legends, but Anthem instead! While Anthem received mediocre responses from the gaming community, Apex Legends thrived and gained a solid cult following soon after (if you’re interested to know how much your Apex Legends Account is worth, check out the Apex Legends Account Calculator).

Free does not necessarily mean that it’s good, but the game is a special consideration. With tons of people still looking to try out Fortnite’s newest competition, performance is of utmost importance in an FPS game. Today, we’ll take a look at what to tweak in your PC to get primo build performance.

Could your PC run Apex Legends?

The ultimate question for your PC as of the moment is: Can it run Apex Legends? Luckily, EA has provided us with an official minimum and recommended system requirements as your benchmark. Should your system barely reach the requirements below, it’s either time for an upgrade or a few tweaks in all of your gaming settings to the lowest option available. However, keep in mind that the overall performance and graphics of the game will definitely take a hit.

The minimum requirements are as follows:

  • OS: 64-bit Windows 7
  • CPU: Intel Core i3-6300 3.8Hz / AMD FX-4350 4.2GHz Quad-Core Processor
  • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GT 640 / Radeon HD 7700
  • GPU RAM: 1 GB
  • RAM: 6GB
  • Hard Drive: Minimum of 30GB of free space

The recommended requirements are as follows:

  • OS: 64-bit Windows 7
  • CPU: Intel i5 3570k or equivalent
  • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX970 / AMD Radeon R9 290
  • GPU RAM: 8GB
  • RAM: 8GB
  • Hard Drive: Minimum of 30GB of free space

Overall, the game doesn’t ask for much in terms of CPU or GPU. The requirements make it a bit more tolerable than the likes of other games like PUBG, so if you already have a GTX 1050 graphics card, then you’re most likely good to go! What’s more, RAM and SSDs have become more accessible as of late, since their prices are going down. The same statement can be applied for CPUs as well, as more the budget-friendly AMD Ryzen and Intel i5 CPUs that can sustain overclocking have been released in the market just a few months ago.

Settings to Set before Playing

First off, remove the FPS cap in Apex Legends. Since by default the game has a limit of the frame rates of 144 frames per second, any tweaking or modification you will be doing beforehand will be wasted until you remove the FPS limit.

Remove FPS Limit

To remove the FPS cap, open the Origin Launcher first, and then go to My Game Library. Find the game “Apex Legends” in your library and right-click it. Afterward, select Game Properties. Click the Advanced Launch Options tab down below it and type “+fps_max unlimited” in your Command line arguments, then finally click Save and you’re done!

Optimize Your In-Game Settings

After removing the FPS limit, it’s time to optimize the game to your liking. Optimizing a game means reaching the highest FPS possible to make the gameplay buttery smooth. While the performance increase may vary from system to system depending on your rig, what we’ll be showing instead will be for everyone in order for you to take advantage of our tips—whether you’ve got a potato PC or a souped-up one with all the RGB in the world.

First up is adjusting your display mode. To make the most out of the resources in the game, set the display mode to Full Screen instead of Borderless. This also makes you focus on the game more since you can’t alt-tab so easily. Lowering your resolution is also an option if you want to have an extra bit of FPS, but setting it to your native resolution is what most people do. Basically, if you have a budget-gaming PC, you ought to set everything to either Low or None so the gameplay doesn’t lag on you. Bullet points below though for the best possible low display latency settings in-game:

  • Display Mode: Full Screen
  • V-Sync: Disabled
  • Adaptive Resolution Target: 0

However, if you have a high-end gaming PC, ultra-standard graphics shouldn’t be a problem. Now log into your Apex Legends Account and play a match or two! You can also have a look at the Apex Legends Account Calculator to see just how much your account is worth should you decide to sell it.
