The DEUS EX Series had a special place in my heart, probably since it’s one of the very few games that I played with my first console. So when we heard that EIDOS Montreal, creators of the critically acclaimed DEUS EX: Human Revolution announced that a new game engine is on its way for the next DEUS EX game, we were stoked.

“Based on a heavily modified version of IO Interactive’s Glacier™ 2 engine, it represents the beginning of a new era for us. Our ambition is to build upon and improve both the visual and immersive artistry in our games, whilst also strengthening both the gameplay and storytelling experiences we strive to create.”

Dawn-Engine-ScreenshotThe image above is taken directly from EIDOS Montreal’s Dawn Engine, showing what it is capable at the moment. The environment seems to be heavily detailed, and has this orange-like filter we used to see from the previous DUES EX game. It is not necessarily the environment of the next game, but it’s just awesome. Do note that this screenshot might be for the devs alone, to check out the capabilities of the engine.

The Dawn Engine, as said by EIDOS Montreal, is based on a modified Glacier 2 Technology Engine from IO Interactive. The same engine used to power Hitman: Absolution. EIDOS said that the new engine improves rendering capabilities, real-time physics and advanced artificial intelligence programming.
