MSI stunned the crowd when they unveiled the Stealth 16 Mercedes-AMG Motorsports. This is a partnership between MSI and Mercedes-AMG, featuring the Stealth 16 Studio at its core but with the livery and luxurious appeal of the AMG brand.
External Design
The Stealth 16 with the AMG branding is not just your normal Stealth Studio slapped with the AMG branding on it. It now comes in a Selenite Gray colorway which is a contrast to the base model’s Pure White or Star Blue appearance. A thing to notice here is the inclusion of AMG’s exclusive rhombus pattern – as seen on its spacebar, rear and even the webcam area.
The 16 inch laptop retained the magnesium-aluminum alloy chassis, weighing in at 1.88 kg which is already great for its class. For reference, the base model comes with a 1.99 kg weight so this one is a bit lighter at minus 110 grams. Not sure how they even managed that considering the branding added to its plate.
While it looks thick, it is actually 19.95 mm thin. That puts it within the range of ultrabooks by technicality. I also like how you could lift the panel with confidence using only a finger which is most likely due to its hinge design and weight combined.
Display
The Stealth 16 Mercedes-AMG Motorsports comes with a 16:10 aspect ratio 4K panel. It is OLED and carries the Vesa DisplayHDR 600 certification.
While it retained the aspect ratio and resolution of the base model, the AMG variant is only available in a 60 Hz OLED panel. Not a bad trade-off considering it is IPS and will most likely feature an acceptable motion clarity over IPS.
Keyboard and Touch
Now this is what I like about MSI’s laptops the most – they come with almost full sized arrow keys. That aside, the Stealth 16 Mercedes-AMG sports the usual layout for 16 or even 17 inch laptops. Key travel is a bit shallow but then again compared to what I’ve used thus far, it aint bad for a non-mechanical clicker. Like many laptops of its class, it comes with customizable RGB lighting.
The touchpad is pretty wide and easy to glide with although I cannot confirm if it is made out of glass or plastic. As for security, it comes with a fingerprint reader along with support for Windows Hello and a shutter for the webcam.
What’s Inside
We can’t exactly show you what’s inside the laptop but underneath those perforations, lies the Cooler Boost 5 cooling solution – taming the mobility Intel Core i9 CPU and the NVIDIA RTX 40 series GPU. Possible configurations here are as follows: NVIDIA RTX 4070, 4060 or 4050 Laptop GPUs. I was told that every SKU will feature an Intel Core i9 but that may change at a later date.
Mobility is a courtesy of a 4-Cell 99.9 Wh battery. That is a plenty for this laptop but do not expect miracles for its unplugged gaming performance or battery life while gaming.
Connectivity
Connectivity is decent for its size. We have a 2x USB Type-C here with PD charging and Intel Thunderbolt 4 support. It also comes with a Type-A USB 3.2 Gen 2 header, a Micro SD Card Reader, an HDMI 2.1 port and a LAN port.
Nothing extravagant but these are more than enough for most.
Limited Edition Mercedes-AMG Accessories
The Stealth 16 Mercedes-AMG Motorsport package includes an exclusive array of bundled accessories featuring a specially designed color box, mouse, mouse pad, USB drive, pouch, postcards and cable ties.
These accessories also carry the Mercedes-AMG colorway so they are pretty much what you could call luxury or limited edition items – on their own.
Price and Availability
The MSI Stealth 16 Mercedes-AMG Motorsports is slated to get released this August of 2023. Price is about $3,533 USD directly converted from its reported price of €3,299 EUR.
