ADATA used its COMPUTEX 2026 booth to introduce the Urban series, a new line of portable SSDs built around modern mobile workflows. Two products led the storage showcase: the Urban Tapsafe, a security-focused drive with a novel NFC unlocking mechanism, and the Urban Pocket Elite, a speed-first drive that earned a Red Dot Design Award before it even hit shelves.
Urban Tapsafe
The Urban Tapsafe is a key-fob-sized portable SSD that stays locked and invisible to the system when plugged in. The only way to open it is to tap an NFC-paired smartphone against the casing. ADATA uses a dedicated companion app that essentially turns a user’s smartphone into a personalized security key, replacing the need for passwords or biometric hardware.

The drive also supports access management for multiple users, up to nine, with configurable permissions such as read-only or read/write. It automatically locks when disconnected from the paired device.
Beyond security, the Tapsafe holds its own on performance. It comes in 1 TB and 2 TB capacities with a 20 Gbps USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 interface and transfer speeds of up to 1.9 GB/s.

ADATA also included a magnetic swappable decorative cover in the box, with an extra gradient-colored option for personalizing or color-coding different projects. The NFC drive comes with a clip too.
Urban Pocket Elite
The Urban Pocket Elite is a Red Dot Design Award winner that is 75% smaller than its predecessor and supports USB4 speeds up to 4,000 MB/s. The drive is similar in design to the SE920 but drops the fan entirely, relying on passive cooling instead. Its build leans heavily on recycled materials, with 50% recycled aluminum and 85% PCR plastic. Sequential write speeds reach 3.6 GB/s via the 40 Gbps USB4 interface.

Both drives sit under ADATA’s new Urban series umbrella, designed to deliver flexible, efficient storage tailored to today’s mobile users. Sales of the Urban Tapsafe are scheduled to begin in the second half of 2026. No pricing or availability window has been shared for the Pocket Elite.
