ASUS Republic of Gamers (ROG) has officially signaled a new era for wearable displays with the announcement of the ROG XREAL R1, the world’s first 240 Hz micro-OLED augmented reality (AR) gaming glasses. Unveiled at CES 2026, the R1 aims to bridge the gap between portable gaming and high-end desktop immersion.
Table of Contents:
A Giant Screen in Your Pocket
The ROG XREAL R1 leverages a Sony 0.55-inch micro-OLED display to project a massive 171-inch virtual screen (equivalent to viewing at 4 meters). With a 57° field of view—covering 95% of a user’s focused viewing area—the glasses provide significantly more scale than traditional portable monitors.

Gamers can choose between “Anchor” and “Follow” viewing modes to lock the display in space or have it track their head movements. To ensure visual clarity in any environment, the lenses feature electrochromic technology, allowing users to manually or automatically adjust transparency across three levels depending on ambient lighting.
Desktop-Grade Performance
Prioritizing competitive gaming, the R1 achieves a 240 Hz refresh rate and an ultra-low 2 ms motion-to-photon latency, virtually eliminating the lag often associated with AR peripherals. The visual experience is complemented by Sound by Bose technology, designed to provide spatial awareness through immersive, high-fidelity audio.

ROG Control Dock
While the glasses connect directly to the ROG Ally via a single USB-C cable for a “zero-setup” experience, ASUS also introduced the ROG Control Dock (GCD01). This companion hub expands compatibility to traditional PCs and consoles through dual HDMI 2.0 and DisplayPort 1.4 inputs, allowing players to switch between devices effortlessly.
