At their HQ, ASUS officially unveiled the ROG Ally X; the 2nd generation in the series, featuring better display, upgraded memory and a whole lot better battery life – now twice the capacity versus the original.
The ROG Ally X is priced at $799 USD, which is around 46K PHP directly converted into local currency. That slots the Ally X just $50 USD above the venerable 1 TB OLED equipped Steam Deck or versus the original’s $699 USD entry price.
To make the price-point worth it, ASUS equipped the Ally X with 24 GB of LPDDR5 memory, a 120 Hz OLED display and a 40 W·h Li-ion battery.
Weight increased though at +70 grams, but surely these upgrades in specifications are worth the additional price tag. I am more interested in its increased battery capacity, paired with the AMD Ryzen Z1 – which is still the APU at the heart of the new model.
While I couldn’t tell the difference in performance and the additional weight of the Ally X over its predecessor, it is noticeably easier to handle. Ergonomics has been refined, with adjusted controls and minor cosmetic changes.
Aside from our quick rundown though, I cannot say anything else. Will definitely try it again once I got my hands on one at Computex 2024 proper.
