How to Write an Assignment

Writing assignments are not as easy as you might think. You have to worry about organization, vocabulary, grammar, spelling, and punctuation. Nevertheless, creating a great writing assignment is still possible if you follow our guide.

Assignment Writing Structure

Stick to the following plan to write an assignment:

  • Introduction
  • Main body
  • Conclusion

Not following the plan is one of the most common mistakes, and it is the main reason for getting a low grade. Let’s figure out how to write an assignment according to a plan for organizing the text and disclosing the topic properly.

Introduction

Here, you need to voice the main problem and present two opposite points of view on it. The volume ranges from two to three sentences.

  • Read the selected statement carefully.
  • Determine what are the opposing views on the problem.
  • Write as follows: one or two sentences – general information + relevance; one sentence is the first point of view, and one sentence is the second point of view.
  • Use stable structures and phrases to represent two points of view. For example: on the one hand, on the other hand.

Main body

In the second paragraph, you will write your opinion and defend it with two or three arguments. Be sure to use phrases that show that this is your opinion: in my opinion, I strongly believe, from my point of view, etc. Use these phrases for arguments: to begin with, last but not least, furthermore.

  • Look for different topics for written assignments on the Internet. Practice coming up with arguments for and against each topic.
  • Take different topics and come up with related problems. For example: Cultural and historical features of the native country. Possible problems to mention in the assignment are as follows: Should history be a required discipline? Is it important to observe traditions? Do you need to visit places of real events to study history and culture or are there enough books? This will help you learn to see problems and different points of view on them.
  • If you find it difficult to come up with arguments due to a lack of knowledge, read how other people write. For example, read Time Magazine or the site ProCon, where the arguments for and against are collected by topics. There you will find articles on many relevant topics: the environment, online education, technology, attitude towards finance, and career choices. From there, it is convenient to take both arguments and vocabulary on the topic. Also, you can find assignment help online on specialized services like https://assignmentshark.com/. You can order samples of different papers to understand how to present arguments. In other words, you will see how other people work with topics and express their points of view.
  • A few days before writing an assignment, prepare yourself for arguments on a variety of topics.
  • Plan your essay. To do this, divide a sheet of paper into two columns: for and against. Write in one column all the “for” arguments that come to mind. In the second column, write down any “against” arguments.
  • Evaluate what happened, and take as your opinion the point of view that you can substantiate. The teacher does not evaluate what you think and how familiar you are with the topic. Instead, the teacher evaluates how you can write text in a given format. If you have come up with less than three arguments “for,” do not waste time on coming up with the rest – take an opinion that you can justify with three or four arguments.

In the third paragraph, you need to justify the opposite opinion using one or two arguments. Use the same scheme as in the previous one: “However, there are people who hold the opposite opinion, they think that … ”

In the fourth paragraph, you need:

  • To be sure to express your disagreement with the point of view from the third paragraph.
  • To explain why you disagree with the opposite opinion.

We need one strong argument, which will confirm your point of view and refute exactly the arguments “against” that were in the third paragraph.

Example. Your topic is comparing the effectiveness of online and offline learning.

Arguments for online learning:

  • It allows you to master skills that will be useful in the future.
  • There is access to a lot of information.
  • There is a choice of information sources and level of complexity.

Arguments against online learning:

  • The offline education system has stood the test of time.
  • When learning offline, there are more opportunities for communication.

Powerful arguments to refute:

  • We can transfer all the developments of traditional education online.
  • Communication in modern society is moving to the Internet, so it is useful to be able to communicate online.

Conclusion

In the conclusion, it is necessary to summarize everything. The length ranges from two to three sentences; as such, this is the shortest part. Don’t present new information or come up with new arguments. Also, don’t defend the opposite view. If you don’t know what to write in the conclusion, try to match other words for the same content that was in the first paragraph.

If you want to write your assignments better, this guide will help you. Only those who know how to write papers from the beginning to the end correctly can expect a good grade. Show your great ability to write in your next assignment!
