It’s been a while since we’ve seen CoolChip‘s kinetic cooler design that piqued the interest of many 2 years ago. It’s a first in the industry (consumer-wise), allowing its fan construct to become a part of the heatsink itself. Now Thermaltake joint forces with CoolChip to finally annouce the first consumer grade Kinetic cooler in the market – the Engine 27 1U.

The Engine 27 1U is aptly named. It’s 27mm tall and is perfect for 1U servers which is a rack unit type server. This basically means that the Engine 27 1U is perfect for slim PCs – which is what it is designed for in the first place.

The Engine 27 1U works by utilizing the fan itself as a part of the heat transfer process – literally. It’s an impeller fan made out of metal with radial gaps underneath creating an indirect contact to the plate below it. It is indirect, since there are tiny gaps that allows the plate and heatsink assembly to transfer heat without introducing friction. Well, that’s the gist on how it works.

At the moment, the Thermaltake Engine 27 1U is only compatible with Intel’s LGA 115X socket platform. No words about AMX series compatibility yet nor information about the pricing.
