First unveiled at Computex 2025, GIGABYTE Technology has officially released the AORUS RTX 5090 AI BOX, an external graphics processing unit designed for laptops. It is the first desktop-class eGPU to feature NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 5090 GPU, built on the Blackwell architecture, and uses the new Thunderbolt 5 interface for high-speed connectivity.
The AORUS RTX 5090 AI BOX is positioned for users in gaming, content creation, and AI development who require near-desktop-level performance on portable systems. It comes equipped with 32 GB of VRAM and over 3000 AI TOPS, enabling demanding workloads such as AI model training, image generation, 3D rendering, and high-fidelity gaming.

To manage thermals, the device integrates the AORUS WATERFORCE liquid cooling system, which covers the GPU, VRAM, MOSFETs, and other critical components. The cooling setup includes a large copper baseplate, a 240 mm aluminum radiator, two 120 mm fans, and a water pump, aiming to balance performance with quieter operation.

Through Thunderbolt 5, the eGPU offers up to 80 Gbps bidirectional bandwidth (64 Gbps PCIe Gen4 x4 dedicated to the GPU) and also supports 100W laptop charging via power delivery. The single connection can simultaneously handle GPU acceleration, video output, data transfer, and charging.
In addition to graphics processing, the AI BOX provides multiple expansion ports for external peripherals such as monitors, keyboards, drawing tablets, and wired networks, effectively turning laptops into full-featured workstations.
The GIGABYTE AORUS RTX 5090 AI BOX is now available. Price is still TBA though.
