Globe has joined an elite group of telecommunications companies worldwide in adopting the GSMA’s groundbreaking Responsible AI (RAI) Maturity Roadmap. This initiative marks Globe’s firm commitment to the ethical development and deployment of artificial intelligence (AI), ensuring that these powerful technologies are harnessed responsibly for the benefit of its customers, the environment, and society at large.
As part of its broader sustainability efforts, Globe recognizes responsible AI as a crucial driver of sustainable digital transformation. By aligning with the GSMA RAI Maturity Roadmap, Globe aims to ensure that its AI not only enhances business performance but also contributes to global sustainable development goals.
The GSMA, an international body representing mobile network operators, introduced the RAI Maturity Roadmap as the first sector-wide approach to managing AI. Globe is one of 19 telecom operators globally committed to this roadmap, which is designed to help companies track, evaluate, and improve their AI initiatives.
The roadmap, built on insights from McKinsey and top telecom firms, provides a structured framework that enables companies to assess their AI capabilities, align strategies with responsible practices, and promote fairness, transparency, and accountability. It focuses on five key areas: a company’s vision and values, AI governance, technical compliance, collaboration with third-party ecosystems, and change management.
Globe sees AI as transformative across its operations—from enhancing climate resilience and optimizing network performance to improving customer service and preventing fraud. The company has also strengthened its online safety measures by blocking non-photographic imagery (NPI) of child sexual abuse, including AI-generated content. By adhering to the GSMA’s framework, Globe is committed to developing AI-driven solutions that are cutting-edge while prioritizing ethical standards and user safety.
At the GSMA’s Mobile 360 event in Seoul, South Korea, Anton Bonifacio, Globe’s Chief AI Officer, emphasized the importance of early action in responsible AI adoption.
“In the early days of the internet, it took too long to prioritize cybersecurity, data privacy, ethics, and governance. With AI, we have a chance to get it right much earlier—focusing on privacy, security, and ensuring that humans remain at the center of innovation,” Bonifacio said.
He highlighted the GSMA Roadmap’s value in filling the gap in best practices for responsible AI use, adding that Globe will contribute its learnings as it advances AI adoption.
“Balancing rapid innovation with ethical AI development is crucial. We can’t afford to wait for perfect standards but we also can’t move forward recklessly. The GSMA roadmap provides the structure needed to strike this balance as we integrate AI into Globe’s operations,” Bonifacio added.
Globe is rapidly advancing AI adoption both internally and externally. Earlier this year, the company appointed Bonifacio as the Philippines’ first Chief AI Officer and created a dedicated AI Group, underlining its commitment to AI integration across the business.
Currently, Globe uses AI to streamline internal processes, boost employee engagement, and enhance productivity. Generative AI is also being employed to simplify customer service, helping Globe improve interactions with its users.
“We believe AI is more than just a buzzword; it has the potential to be as transformative as the internet. For Globe, AI helps create happier employees by automating routine tasks and improving work-life balance, leading to better customer experiences and, ultimately, increased shareholder value. We call this the ‘Circle of Happiness,’ and AI is central to keeping this cycle going,” said Bonifacio.
