Vultr Bolsters AI Arsenal with 24K AMD Instinct MI355X GPUs

Vultr, the world’s largest privately-held cloud infrastructure provider, has announced a massive expansion of its strategic collaboration with AMD. In a move designed to democratize access to high-performance AI compute, Vultr is launching a new AI supercluster powered by 24,000 AMD Instinct MI355X GPUs.

The deployment will be housed in Vultr’s newly established cloud data center in Springfield, Ohio. This facility represents a 50 MW expansion aimed at delivering high performance per dollar for intensive AI training and inference workloads.

A Strategic Shift to AMD Hardware

Vultr was among the first cloud providers to adopt AMD’s Instinct lineup, including the MI325X. This latest expansion solidifies Vultr’s bet on AMD as a viable alternative to the current market scarcity of AI accelerators.

Beyond the immediate deployment of the MI355X units, Vultr outlined a forward-looking roadmap. The company plans to integrate AMD’s next-generation Instinct MI450 series GPUs and the “Helios” rack-scale infrastructure as soon as they become available.

“As demand for AI infrastructure continues to accelerate, Vultr is committed to delivering hyperscale capacity with speed and global reach,” said J.J. Kardwell, CEO of Vultr. “By investing in the development of racked GPU capacity at scale, we’re enabling enterprises to push the boundaries of what’s possible with AI and bring next-generation applications to market faster.”

Expanding the “Silicon Heartland”

The choice of Springfield, Ohio, marks Vultr’s first entry into the state, reinforcing the Midwest’s growing reputation as a hub for digital infrastructure. The project has garnered significant support from local entities, including the Ohio Governor’s Office, JobsOhio, and the Dayton Development Coalition.

This location will not only host the new GPU clusters but also continue Vultr’s integration of full-stack AMD hardware, which already includes AMD EPYC 4005 Series processors and the recently launched Vultr VX1 Cloud Compute instances.

Executive Commentary

Andrew Dieckmann, Corporate Vice President and General Manager of AMD’s Data Center GPU Business Unit, highlighted the efficiency of the partnership.

“Our work with Vultr exemplifies how strategic collaboration can deliver AI infrastructure with global scale and efficiency. Together, we’re delivering large-scale AI compute that meets the needs of the most demanding AI workloads.”

With a recent equity financing round valuing the company at $3.5 billion, Vultr continues to position itself as a flexible, lower-cost alternative to the “Big Three” hyperscalers, leveraging open hardware ecosystems to attract AI innovators globally.
