Wargaming Details World of Tanks Update 2.0

Wargaming has announced a major update for its online multiplayer game, World of Tanks, scheduled for release on September 1. Titled “Update 2.0,” the patch will introduce Tier XI vehicles for the first time in the game’s history and implement substantial changes to gameplay balance, user interface, matchmaking, and audio-visual presentation.

Tier XI Tanks

The most significant change is the addition of a new vehicle tier. The update will initially introduce 16 Tier XI tanks, which will feature unique gameplay mechanics and a distinct progression system. Wargaming has stated that more Tier XI vehicles are planned for future releases.

Operation Boiling Point

To introduce these new high-tier vehicles, a limited-time, story-driven Player-versus-Environment (PvE) mode called “Operation Boiling Point” will be available at launch. This event will provide a narrative context for the arrival of Tier XI tanks and allow players to test three of the new vehicles on a new, dedicated map.

Rebalancing Initiative

The update also includes a large-scale rebalancing initiative affecting over 350 existing vehicles across all tiers. The developer’s stated goal for this rework is to better define vehicle roles on the battlefield and create more balanced gameplay scenarios.

In addition to gameplay changes, Update 2.0 will overhaul several core systems:

  • New Matchmaker: A completely rebuilt matchmaking system has been developed. It is designed to create teams with better class and tier balance, reduce queue times, and facilitate more varied battle outcomes.
  • User Interface and Hangar: The in-game user interface (UI) has been redesigned for improved clarity and functionality. The player’s hangar will be replaced with a new “tank factory” visual theme, intended to be more interactive.
  • Audio Overhaul: The game’s sound system has been upgraded. This includes new, heavier tank engine and weapon sounds recorded from real-world vehicles, along with clearer audio cues for combat events.
  • New Map: A new Scandinavian-themed map titled “Nordskar” will be added to the map rotation.

“2.0 isn’t just an update – it’s a cornerstone of the game’s future evolution that will define World of Tanks development for years to come,” said Michael Broek, World of Tanks Publishing Director West. He noted that the changes are the culmination of two years of development work.

A trailer for the update was presented at gamescom 2025 Opening Night Live. Further details and overview videos for Update 2.0 can be found on the official World of Tanks website.
